Bethel Park High School German students celebrated National German Week Oct. 6-10 with spirit days, a fundraiser for a local animal shelter, and a fairy-tale writing competition.
Spirit days during the week included Black, Red and Gold Day, German Brand Day and Soccer Day.
Students also competed in a "Pennies for Pets" contest to see which German class could raise the most money for Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh. Honors German II won with $73.34, earning the class a homework pass. Together, the German classes raised $163.08 for the shelter.
On Oct. 7, students in German III, IV, and V traveled to Washington & Jefferson College for a workshop on Germanic fairy tales. The workshop included a writing competition in which 34 Bethel Park students wrote their own fairy-tale endings.
Winners will be announced March 18, 2027, at the Three Rivers German Day Competition at Washington & Jefferson College.
