Officer Gawlas brings real-world perspective to IMS reading unit on law, kindness and community

School resource officer Chris Gawlas visited seventh-grade enrichment students at Independence Middle School last week to discuss how police officers help educate the public.

The visit supplemented a unit pairing a textbook story, in which a woman answers an attempted purse theft with kindness, with the article "A Police Stop Changed This Teenager's Life," about an officer who supports a young person in need.
