During the annual spring induction ceremony, Bethel Park High School recently celebrated the inclusion of 25 outstanding students into its Société Honoraire de Français (SHF) chapter. The SHF, known as the French National Honor Society, recognizes students for their excellence in studying the French language and culture.
The Société Honoraire de Français recognizes high school students who have demonstrated excellence in studying the French language and culture. Membership is an honor that reflects the students' hard work, dedication, and passion for French studies. To qualify, Bethel Park French students must maintain a 90% average throughout their study of French. Additionally, the SHF and the French Club collaborate each year to sponsor a Haitian student, reflecting their commitment to global citizenship and cultural exchange.
The ceremony, attended by students, parents, faculty, and distinguished guests, featured a series of speeches highlighting the importance of language learning and cultural exchange.
Bethel Park High School’s French Department teachers, who oversee the SHF chapter, expressed pride in the inductees' accomplishments.
"These students have shown remarkable commitment to mastering the French language and understanding its cultural nuances,” said Michelle Smith, the department’s facilitator. “Their induction into the Société Honoraire de Français is a testament to their hard work and enthusiasm for learning."
The inductees, adorned in traditional SHF insignia, recited the society's pledge to continue pursuing French language proficiency and cultural awareness. Each student received a certificate and pin as symbols of their achievement.
Bethel Park High School Principal Joseph Villani commended the students for their dedication. "Learning a second language is a valuable skill that will open many doors for our students,” he said. “Their induction into the SHF is just the beginning of their journey in becoming global citizens."
The new SHF members join a nationwide network of students dedicated to promoting the French language and culture. This honor recognizes their past achievements and encourages them to continue their studies and engage with the global community.
